Episode Summary

We chat with the 2020 recipients of the UVic Provost awards Katie Martens and Samuel Seshardi about balancing their studies with their training and just why both the academic and physical aspects of their studies compliment each other so well.

Episode Notes

For the second year in a row, and the third time in its 16 year history, the University of Victoria Vikes Honour Roll Luncheon awarded the prestigious Provost award to two students athletes who tied for the best GPA. Economics students Katie Martens and Sam Seshardi both achieved a perfect GPA of 9.0 to take out the Award, which was recently presented to them during a special zoom call where deans from each faculty read out honour roll recipients. Katie & Sam were part of the record 101 honour roll student athletes who achieved a minimum of a 6.6 GPA while training and competing at the highest level of sport. Alongside their perfect GPA, both Katie and Sam train heavily in their respective sports, with Katie taking part in golf and Sam taking part in rowing. Host Ben Waterworth chats with both Katie and Sam about what it means to them both to win the award, as well as why using their physical and mental abilities are so important for both their sporting and academic achievements.
